Meeker Colorado Outfitters - It was Muzzleloader season and was a hot afternoon even for a Meeker Colorado Outfitter. We ended up making a game plan and due to the weather and the dry conditions as the Meeker Colorado outfitter I had two guys sit at water holes and I took one guy to try and locate some elk. I didn’t think we would see much activity due to the hot and dry condition; I really felt like hunting water holes was the best plan. We started hiking and within a half hour we spotted some elk about 500 yards away. Being a Meeker Colorado outfitter for many years, I couldn’t believe these elk were out and bugling this early with the hot conditions. We closed the distance to about three hundred yards and had three different groups of elk all within a quarter mile radius. Due to our location, the wind and the location of the elk I knew this was going to be a difficult stalk. A lot of eyes are out there and at a lot of different locations. We closed the gap even more and had a visual on two nice bulls and 30-40 cows. We got within 150 yards and just couldn’t go any farther without being seen. We couldn’t get anything to call in so we made one last attempt to close the gap right before shooting light ended. Needless to say, two younger bulls that we never saw or heard busted us so we started heading back to the vehicle. Right when we started to walk out we heard a muzzleloader blast from one of the guys sitting at the water hole. Even though this Meeker Colorado Outfitter wasn’t successful on the stalk we were successful on the evening hunt.
