Rifle Elk Hunting
During the rifle hunt most of the hunting will take place out of hunting stands. We are surrounded by public land so it is typical to have a lot of elk pushed into our property. Our goal is to walk in and out of our stands quietly, so we have a low impact on disturbing the elk. We have a good percentage of harvesting animals. This hunt is typically not too strenuous; we have a wide variety of hunters ranging from ages twenty to eighty. Our harvest 10 year average is 66% and our opportunity rate is generally 85% or better (depending on weather).
We try to hunt on all private land but sometimes the weather is not corporative with us so we will hunt some public land that is bordering the ranch. This gives us a lot more acreage to hunt and is very useful when the hunting pressure isn’t there or in hot, dryer weather conditions. It also diversifies the hunt for those hunters that enjoy a lot of walking and more spot and stalk.
Archery Elk Hunting
During archery and muzzleloader we will be hunting on private land. Unlike the rifle hunting, archery hunts will be more of a freelance hunt if you’re comfortable doing so. Most of the hunting will be moving around, calling and spotting elk.
Deer Hunting
Due to CWD, the deer population has been significantly impacted. Therefore, there is minimal opportunity for harvesting a mature buck.
Bear Hunting
During each elk hunting season there is a bear hunt during the same time. Every year we have opportunities to shoot mature black bears on our property.
The Elk Hunting Lodge
The living quarters are in an upkept 120-year-old cabin, which is also my summer home. It has a lot of character and is a great elk camp. The cabin sits right in the middle of elk country where every year we have ample opportunities to shoot elk right off the front porch. The cabin consists of a loft with six beds, wood burning fire place, electricity, cooking oven, microwave, plates, silverware, coffee pot, barbeque, pots and pans, kitchen sink, running hot water, outdoor shower and outhouse. We do not supply bedding so bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. There is no washer and dryer.
